They are not different subspecies, they are different localities. Since they are from so many different areas they appear different and vary slightly. For example, Adspersus from Botswana are very yellow/grey in colour. The first captive Adspersus came from south africa, the locals from there are larger, and I'm told can tolerate colder tempetures. However with them becoming more widely kept, they where (and are now) sorced form all over africa; combining various localities in captive bred collections, this is why there is so much variation in size/colour. The majority are captive bred now as well, they are bred so much that they have became smaller than wild specimens. So most 'monster' frogs (9inches+) are WC, as CB are unlikely to reach this size.

So to put it simply; there many kinds of P.Adspersus. Ones from Tanzania, Botswana, South africa etc are all different, but belong to the same subspecies (which is P.a.adspersus) . There is also a beleived smaller subspecies from Tanzania. These are all belonging to the species African bullfrog, Pyxiecephalus Adspersus.
