I am about to build a vivarium and am concerned about using wood. Every time I have built them in the past they get mites and I am assuming it is from the wood. Is there anything to do before I put the wood in it to make sure there are no mites? Also, how do I get rid of the mites without emptying out the entire vivarium? Thanks
Every time i start a new vivarium, i sterilize all the wood and soil in the oven at 200C for about 8-15min, than let cool. Suggest you open the windows when doing this, slightly smelly, but thats frog keeping for you. You can also use boiling water, but find its very messy that way.
Thanks! I'll stick it in the stove and see if that helps.
i soak wood in a bleach water for a couple days then regular water for a couple more
