    Default Shedding

Is it normal for my ACF to shed every week? I know she shed last thurs/fri because I saw her eating it and I have just seen her shedding now, is it not to soon? I've done water tests and everything is A-ok and I do 25% water changes weekly. I'm feeding her frog bites, which she must be eating as she isn't as skinny as she was a few weeks ago. I'm not overly worried, just want to check that the frequency of her sheds isn't something to be concerned about. Thank you in advance,
    Maddy

That sounds pretty normal especially for frogs that are still growing.

Would she be still growing at about 2 years old? I had assumed she was fully grown

I would think weekly is still fine. I really never notice my frogs shedding. I look at them 1-2 times a day for a minute or so. I'd be more concerned about bad sheds vs frequency of sheds. How big is she by the way?

Just had a quick measure (through the glass so not 100% accurate) and she is about 2.5" body length (not inc. legs). I can't remember exactly when I got her but it is definitely over 18 months ago

She is pretty small. My big girl is close to that age and 50-75% bigger. I can't say if she was stunted or not, yours may be hitting a growth spurt.

I used to have three, lost two to bloat, but all three were dyed when I got them (I didn't know any harm would come of it till joining ff), could that have something to do with her size?

It is hard telling what effects the dying has on them. I hear they don't usually thrive, but some do well. Here is a link to another members gallary. These frogs were dyed when purchased. Beautiful and healthy now.

So, because I'd seen kermit shedding two days after the last one, this morning I tested her water before and after her water change using tetra test liquid testing kits. I could only test for ammonia and nitrites as my nitrates kit appears to have grown legs and disappeared. The results were:

    Before PWC:
    Ammonia 5mg/l
    Nitrites <0.3mg/l

    After PWC:
    Ammonia 3mg/l
    Nitrites <0.3mg/l

So I'm thinking daily pwc's (10-20%) to get the ammonia back under control, is there anything else I should do?
I've added a picture of her too incase there is something visually wrong that I'm missing

Did a 20% PWC today and these are the reading from the water tests i did afterward:

    Ammonia 1.5mg/l
    0.3mg/l

ammonia has gone down slightly but nitrates has risen slightly, is that ok? I was expecting both to fall

forgot to mention, the tank was cycled before i put her in it

For after a water change, your ammonia reading is quite high. Do you filter the tank? After filtration and a water change, you should not get any reading for ammonia or nitrite at all. When I saw the photo in your album I thought this was a young female... I would up the water changes and invest in a filter if you don't yet have one.

Yeah the tank has a filter, think I'm going to have to upgrade it though. I've been doing weekly 25% pwc's then I've started doing daily 10%'s. I cant explain the ammonia spikes, unless I've been over feeding?

I would be curious to see the test results on your water right from the tap. Perhaps these amounts exist in your water supply?

I feel sad that Kermit is only half the size she should be will this be an issue when the babies are fully grown?

If after the water change you are still seeing ammonia then you need to do another water change - -

A good way of figuring out how much to do is
a reading of .25 means about or a little more than a 25% wc
a reading of .50 means about or a little more than a 50% wc

retest after each water change and change a bit more if needed.
