I've been having the feed my Whites Tree Frog using a liquid carnivore care product. The vet gave me a small syringe with no needle and told me to use it to open her mouth and then inject. It's a very stressful process, and not only that but now she is developing a sore on the spot where I'm having to pry her mouth open. Does anyone know a less invasive way of getting their mouths open? I have to do this twice a day until she starts eating again, and I feel the stress of the process is just delaying her trying to hunt. Experiences would be much appreciated.
I've had to do that a number of times at work, for sick reptiles. Unfortunately, I, and my coworkers, always have that same problem. They rarely get better, too. But maybe my coworkers and I just suck at administering it. So far, I have not found a way to successfully give it to the reptiles/amphibians without having to force their mouth open and eventually creating a sore (except for one leopard gecko who seemed to love it).
I often medicate my own frogs for parasites and I have to pry their mouths open to administer the drugs. To do this I use the pointed end of these dental floss thingies (I know, I am so technical) and that works well for me. At one end there is a fork with a piece of floss stretched between it and at the other a flattened point. The pointed end is good for this task.
Also you can use liquified baby food, that you can get in the supermarket meant for human babies. Beef or chicken will work. This is what my vet uses.
I would try to get baby food that kinda seems a little bit more organic then the generic stuff though.
Well I already have a big bag of carnivore care that the vet gave me that will last a while so I'm good on that but thanks Kurt I actually have some of those things lying around I'll try that.
Make sure it is clean and I would recommend not doing it in the same place all the time.
How often does I need to dust the food for red eye tree frogs?
