So I had my lone pacific chorus frog in a temporary cage (a large bucket) overnight while cleaning and rearranging its permanent one. I lined the bottom of the bucket with some heavily soaked sphagnum. The next day I found it had laid a string of about 50 eggs on the sphagnum. It had not come into contact with another frog since its tankmate died several weeks ago. So these can't possibly be fertilized, right? Has anyone else observed this kind of behavior in this or any other species? What could of prompted it? I transferred the eggs into some dechlorinated water, just in case.
