Sorry, but I am in full support of this one. (Just as I was in full support of Nebraska's Green Iguana Ban)

It is a shame that there are quite a few responsible hobbyists out there that keep pythons, however the negligent "keepers" far outnumber them. All that can be hoped for for python keepers now is the addition of a permit clause. In other words, pray they allow an expensive permit for keepers. This keeps these snakes out of the hands of idiots.

This law is a direct result of hobbyists not keeping each other in check due to profits and as a result of the multiple python species that have overrun Florida and other places. The python problem is a prime example of both an irresponsible pet trade and poorly informed, lazy consumers coupled with a complete lack of regulation by anyone.

Look at the bright side! You do not have to go to a zoo to see them anymore, a short trip to the Everglades and you can see them in the wild!
Watching FrogTV because it is better when someone else has to maintain the enclosure!

I agree Johnny, the line has been crossed far too many times. Here in Spain, a similar situation took place with T.s.elegans which has been banned from the market, because people are just plain stupid. You can find these turtles pretty much anywhere you go here...they have invaded all the major rivers and lakes. In fact, only the higher parts of rivers seem to be safe.
It was a pretty dumb law though, cause T.s.scripta is still legal, and so are many other highly invasive species....and people are still just as stupid as they were before, nothing has changed at all.
