    Default UV sterilizers-your thoughts

I am expecting a couple of new frogs in a couple of weeks. I currently only have one. I have a small "in tank" UV sterilizer in my fish storage boxes. I have been considering running it in the frog tank, especially when the new frogs get here. What are your thoughts? I assume it can't do anything but help. Should I consider running it all the time? It has a adjustable flow and the design is some what similar to a powerhead . My frog did do some time with it when she was smaller and in with fish in a 60 gallon. She has never shown any signs of disease, but everytime I read about or see some diseased frog it worries me. I try to provide the most sterile environment possible (clean bare bottom tank, well established adaquate filtration, etc.)

I did some digging. UV sterilizers kill any free floating bacteria, algae, and parasites. Several of the diseases these frogs are subject to are at one point free floating. Several are not. I am going to run it on the lowest setting. Other than the fact that I can see it in the tank and it will be an additional piece of equipment to maintain there is no real drawback to it. We plan on moving in the spring to a larger place. My tank sits in a built in cubby right now in our spare bedroom. Once we move I am going to get a stand for it and a canister type filter. There is one I am considering that has a built in UV and I will also thrown on an in-line heater to keep all of the equipment out of the tank.
