Hi, I had a quick question about my frogs and their bedding. I know many people like natural setup for their frogs and personally I do to. However I am concerned with every time that they shed and them ingesting the coco fiber substrate in their enclosure. Has anyone had issues with this being a problem or should it be ok. They have things to climb on so that they can get out of the substrate but I have one female that is really big and she prefers staying on the bottom of the tank. I just moved them to their new enclosure (the one I made) and know they need time to settle in. I haven't seen them exploring yet, both seem to be sticking to the bottom of the tank in the coco fiber.
From what I have been reading, I'm sure that accidental ingestion of coco fiber doesn't cause impaction and can be digested.
From what I've read on here, it's completely safe for accidental ingestion and is one of the favorites for substrate use.
You can add a topping of leaf liter to their substrate to keep them from getting so dirty.
My white's tree frog ingested the coconut fiber substrate while eating crickets -- the vet removed it from her mouth, throat, and stomach. It was packed tightly in her. She's not out of the woods yet, still might die. I am going to try a non-ingestible liner with a perforated container of wet sphagnum moss for humidity.
