I work in an aquarium and we recently received an order of plants from Florida I think and this little guy hopped out. I thought he might be a green tree frog at first, but now that he's grown some, he's getting some brownish stripes and I'm not sure what he is anymore. Anyone have an idea? *yfrog Photo : http://yfrog.com/nyz5cpmj Shared by
Do you have a more clearer photo of his front side? Ii can't tell with this photo.
I'm not 100% sure, but that may be a Cuban Tree Frog. Can you give me a estimate size in inches?
Right now, he's a little over an inch. I've had him about 2 months and he's at least doubled in size
Poor little guy. It was kind of you to save him. A friend of mine once rescued an Anole from a plant in Costco.
Here's another picture with more detail*yfrog Photo : http://yfrog.com/h6erxtbj Shared by
Whatever it is; it's adorable - that I do know!
Sorry for totally forgetting about this thread. I WILL identify THAT FROG!
Well, the size estimate definitely tells you he's a juvenile... But now I'm pretty sure he's not a Cuban Tree Frogs because of other photos...
Well, I've searched my entire North Ameica Tree Frog Field Guide and really didn't find anything close! I'll do a slower search next time though. Like I said, I'll do my best to identify this frog!
Apparently juvenile Cubans sometimes have blue leg bones visible from below and reddish eyes, Cuban Treefrog, and the skin on the back of the head is fused to the skull, Florida Wildlife Extension at UF/IFAS. That might be some help. Your guy looks to have the large toepads and reddish eyes (though accurately judging colour from photos is not always possible unless every step from camera to screen is carefully calibrated, and the frogs can vary so much on their own).
I'm definitely no expert when it comes to Florida frogs or possible immigrants though. Juveniles can be tricky in any case.
I talked to the person in charge of the plant orders and that shipment was definitely from Florida. His eyes are more goldenish bronze than red. I'm glad there are other people out there as determined as I am to figure out exactly what he is lol I'll keep
posting pictures as he grows and changes until we figure it out
He's looking more like a Cuban

Definitely a cuban they are in my back yard all the time down here in Florida, like another poster said to be sure you can gently take your finger and rub the skin between his eyes. It won't move at all if hes a Cuban their skin is fused to their skull. If he is a Cuban DON'T release him into the wild no matter what they are an invasive species and are destroying other frog populations in Florida.
He is definitely cute! I am new here and don't have much experience with the creatures only yesterday adopting my own little rescue frog like you seem to have done.
