New-Species Pictures: Cowboy Frog, Armored Catfish Among Finds
It's the last picture in the slideshow.
I'd be interested in finding a scientific journal article about this, but I don't have time to at the moment.
If I had make up a common name for that fella on the spot, it would have to be "pancake frog", due to the color and how flat it is. A lot of times when I read articles about new herp species, I instantly start building a tank for them "in my head", but then I realize that the results of opening up an animal to the pet trade results in instant vulnerability for said animal, and that a lot of frogs would get taken up by stupid soccer moms with whiny children who would buy the animal and treat it disposably until it died.
True that! Cute frog though.
That isn't a new species of Ceratophrys. That is a Surinam Horned Frog. Also known as the Amazonian Horned frog Ceratophrys Cornuta. Great find though. That was an interesting set of animals.
Yea, like grif said its not a new species, just a rarer pacman, they are very attractive frogs, and i would like to get my hands on one of these in the future. But the pic was good.
Are you talking about the link in the description? Because if so then it is actually a new species guys, just one that is extinct.
Yep, the one they call "Cowboy Frog" in slide show is the possible new species. The Surinam Horned Frog pic is correctly identified as one.
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog !
