My American Bullfrog, Shibooty, has not been acting right for almost a month. He/she was acting slow and had a decreased appetite for a couple weeks, so I changed his/her water about 10-14 days ago and he/she has been acting stranger ever since. I used the same method i've used over the past 2 years, tap water treated with water conditioner, the same conditioner used for the past 2 years too. He/she completed the transition into a frog about 2 years ago and his/her body is about 5" long without legs.
Symptoms:
* Swelling on his/her back, just behind the bony prominences on the back, area feels fluid filled (noticed 1/3/12)
* red coloration developed in area of swelling (noticed it 1/8/12)
* increased shedding over past week
* lethargy
* decreased appetite/feeding for the past month or so
* increased time spent out of water since water change ~10 days ago (tank was cleaned in normal manner and refilled with tap water treated with water conditioner the same brand i've used for the past 2 years).
* He/she is normally very shy and skiddish and has recently been sitting out of the water or only partially in the water about 90% of the time.
If you have any suggestions I'd appreciate it.
Time for a trip to the vet for her. It's female for sure. Redness and swelling are definitely red flags which will require a vet's attention.
