Soo, I'm pretty sure Trevor has mites of some sort. When I put him in his water, you can see a lot of little tiny bugs sloshing around in there that weren't in it before, and I could see a couple crawling on him. They're so tiny they're almost invisible, and they're definitely not pinhead crickets or any other food-related larvae..
Anyone know what these things are and what I should do about them? I'm going to change his substrate ASAP and soak him for awhile in a separate container, but other than that I really don't know what to do...
Are they spring tails? These are tiny tiny bugs that help keep your vivariums clean, they are the janitors of the tank and good to have. This is a photo of my spring tail colony.
If they are Spring tails then its probably not a big deal unles they are in numbers that start to annoy your frog. There are mites that will attack your frog and they need to be gotten rid of. You can't use mite sprays or anything like that. Just change the substrate and clean his enclosure good. Soaking him to get them off is what you have to do for him. Try and wash them off by pooring some of the water over his back. Replace everything where they may hide and put everything back to normal. He should be fine.
No, they're definitely not springtails. They are so tiny that you couldn't get a picture of them with a regular camera. Like.. They make pinhead crickets look gigantic. I'll see what happens after I change the substrate...
