    Unhappy Help! Another Bombina escape! Any advice?

    One of my son's 2 toads escaped. He did this once before. Now we know how. We have put water dishes all around our 3-story house (includes basement). Does anyone have any other advice about how to lure him back? I've put the terrarium with his buddy still in it on the floor. Any ideas about favorite hiding places or other tricks (besides the water) to lure him back? How long can they survive out of the tank?

    Thanks!

    You need to keep something some-what heavy on the lid of their enclosure. They climb well. You could try a bowl with a few crickets in it. Perhaps the male crickets' chirping will lure them back.

    Good luck! I hope you find your little guys.

    Heather do you mean a covered bowl? Otherwise the crickets would just escape. There are a few crickets still in the terrarium, and that has already been put down on the floor. They aren't very hungry this time of year, however, because it is getting colder. Thanks so much for your advice!

    Can you explain how he escaped? Make sure he cannot get out of the house. I'm pretty sure that it's below/close to freezing in Brooklyn, (correct me if I'm wrong) so it wouldn't be a good idea for him to get out of the apartment. Just continue putting out water for him (keep in mind that the dishes should be shallow enough so he quickly senses them). He's likely confused and scared by the unnatural feel to a human household. Best of luck!! Another trick is putting a few very active insects in a transparent container, and hoping he stumbles upon them.

    Crickets can't get out of a 1 1/2 to 2 inch bowl

    I had a fire belly toad escape. So I bought a cage you could put a lock on. Frog's can't undo locks. :}
