    Default New frogs a'coming!

I am adopting 6 Xenopus from "curiousfrog" - 3 are X.Borealis and the other three are of an species unknown by the seller. They are described as just about Borealis size and brown....

Getting them tomorrow and will post pictures! I currently have Laevis, Borealis, and Tropicalis....would be quite interesting if this adds a new species to my care!

Six new frogs are currently in my house!

The three borealis are all males. The three mystery frogs look like they are a borealis and laevis hybrid. One female and two males.
Green in body, very faintly spotted, bright yellow thighs. The males have tiny spotting in the yellow that is a dark gray.

Not the best photos -this was their acclimating container. I let them sit in here to discard most of the shedding skin from the stress of shipping. I put red dots on the borealis and yellow dots on the hybrid.

(correct my spelling faults, I donīt know if perchase is written correctly)

    good luck with them

Here are a couple more photos of the "unknown" frogs.

First is the female - Here lovely green color does not well transfer in pictures but she is a beauty! The yellow on her thighs is a bright mustard color.

And here is one of the males...

At first glance it looks like a Borealis but the spotting underneath is just wrong from my experience.

Hard to tell, thatīs a problem, when people try to create new colours. Normaly colouration would be a good way do determine the species but now itīs almost imposible.

Agreed - - I have a feeling a hybrid of Borealis and Laevis occurred - - and if it IS a hybrid, would they be able to breed?

They female's colors in particular are stunning in person - a lovely green with spotting and then a yellow underside....

If I could get her trait to carry on it would make some pretty offspring. That is how we got all the variety we have now - by breeding the "oddballs"

how do you like your borealis ? I'm seriously ( six months now ) thinking about getting a group of borealis and a group of tropicalis ... i've got a few empty tanks open . I hear tropicalis love to bask on floating plants , lilly pads ,etc.

I enjoy both species and have had both for the past couple of years. The borealis appreciate basking areas also.
The male borealis make a VERY loud clicking mating call - I recommend not having that tank in your bedroom!

That is very funny! I named my African Bullfrog "Stilgar" from a character in "Dune" and plan to name other frogs from same novel.

Think breeding hybrids or color morph's would not be bad if breeders and sellers would label their offerings properly. Problem is many are passed as regular or true species to unknowing buyers and that isn't right. BTW; do you still have your Freddie Krueger hybrids? Been looking for a local source but the only found one on net in USA is a wholesaler. Thank you!
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog !

I still have the three hybrids and the new borealis. I have not tried breeding them yet because they are still new to me and I will probably hold off on attempting it untl next year. I will probably try mating a hybrid with a laevis and a borealis to see what the offspring look like.
