Default How to make Hyla Cinerea croak?

I have a male green treefrog purchased from petsmart a few months ago and thought he was a female. He often had a dark green throat (characteristic of males) but I assumed he was a female because what I've read is that males croak annoyingly loud - and he never did. But last night I was startled by a very loud barking/croaking noise repeated rapidly for about 7 seconds (until I turned the lights on) and saw that he was indeed calling for a female. I am wondering how I can make him do this, because I am hoping to find a female at the petstore in the next few months and maybe BREED them. I would maybe leave the two in an appropriate breeding tank and place it outside on a warm, humid, summer night (I live in their natural range) and have them lay some eggs. Is this reasonable? Has it been done with hyla cinerea? How can I induce calling behavior?

btw, first time on the forum. I've read it for a while but never decided to join until now

I don't own a Hyla cinerea, but I have a Whites tree frog and can induce calling behavior every time I intend to.

When I first noticed that my Whites tree frog would croak at night, I bought a Sony handheld recorder.... (I am very interested in vocalization behaviors of frogs and thought it be beneficial to capture some recordings). The recorder has a sound sensor built into it, which enabled me to leave it on overnight, when the frog was most active. I placed the recorder on top of the frog’s tank; I captured a ton of his vocalizations this way.

Whenever I want to induce my Whites tree frog to call, I play back the recordings several times and instantly he starts to vocalize! You can try this with your Green tree frog to see if it works. Please tell me if it does! Good luck with your future breeding plans .
Oh, and welcome to the forum!

Earlier today I actually tried to play some recordings of outside nighttime noise while doing my best impression of a green treefrog call (not TOO loud, of course lol) I could've sworn his throat sac was drooping and enlarging a little bit. I might try again (but with recorded frog calls) tonight. I think he may wait until all the TVs in the house are turned off and it is silent to call. He must feel more calm in those quiet conditions. Thanks for your help

update - nowadays he croaks very easily. All I have to do is pour warm water all over the tank, give him a bunch of crickets, and sometimes play a recording of his own call.
