    Question Mixing breeds

We recently lost, literally lost, 3 of our frogs. We are very heart broken and did EVERYTHING we could to find them. My boyfriend thinks they got out of the house, luckily we have a beautiful lush garden that always has plenty of water supplied. I have one of my frogs left, he is a baja california tree frog. We caught them when we went hiking. We would do that again, only my boyfriend wants to just go buy some frogs, and obviously, i don't think they sell them at our pet stores. The one's in our are do have tree frogs however, and I was wondering how horrible would it be to mix breeds? I told him i wasn't so sure it was okay, but it was worth asking. If it isn't a horrible idea, what breeds would go best with mine?

    Short answer: Don't mix breeds

Long answer: You shouldn't mix species of amphibians and/or reptiles because of a couple of reasons.

1.) All amphibians produce toxins that are harmful to other amphibians, ALL do, not jsut the well known ones, it may not be as stong as others, but it is really unhealthy to keep more than one species together, because they slowly kill each other.

2.) Care/Environment. Most frogs need different care and/or enclosures. ie: you can't keep a tree frog with a terrestrial toad.

3.) Depending on the species, some may assert dominance over others, which is very very stressful to both frogs.
