    Default Dubia Roaches sale!

My colony is way to populated so I need to sell some off! I'm looking to sell 100 for a reasonable asking price..

Great for starting a new colony!

Yes, and depending on how many you order, i can send enough males and females to get a starter colony going

How much would you charge for all of them? I'm getting 300 mixed for a great price, and an extra 100 would certainly be welcome.

I've been looking online and it seems that for 100 with enough adults to start a colony is around $60, shipping price included in the offer.
I would give a bit of an over-count too

I only have enough extra in my colony to give up about 100-200 max, so this is first come first serve.

I live near Stroudsburg, and I go to Penn State in Hazleton, if you know where either of those are..

If this is for making a starter colony I'll throw in some extra females for $40
If not I'll just do a mixed lot for $35

Well, I can't say that I know where either of those are. I'm guessing south of Erie? Ha ha!

I've never fed my pac roaches, but I bet he'd love them. I'm going to read the colony starting article here and see if it's something I'd like to do. Might be a good option for my little guy.

Thanks! I'll let you know soon.

My pac and pixie love them! and once you get a small colony going you never have to buy a staple food again for them! I started mine about 2 years ago and never had to buy a single one since then..

I was just reading online to see how it's done, keeping the colony that is. Any good tips?

I bet he'd love them. He's a great little eater.

The best way to keep these roaches is the K.I.S.S. method..
    Keep It Simple Stupid!

haha! i have mine in a 10gal glass terrarium with a screened lid and a 100 watt heat lamp that keeps the temps around 80-90 degrees in the warmer spot directly under the light. Temps need to be high to get them breeding quickly. A better way to keep them is a large plastic tote. Just cut a decent sized square hole in the top, hot glue some screen on the hole, and place your heat lamp there.

For food and water, just use fruits and vegetables. No need for a water dish, it just makes a huge mess... (trust me on this one...)
As long as the food isnt rotting it should be fine, I always throw some stale cereal in there once in awhile, they absolutely LOVE cheerios!

Besides that just keep enough egg crates/paper towel tubes for them to hide and keep them away from bright sun (they dont like that too much..)

These are by a LONG shot the best feeders you can have, IMO. Very minimal to no smell, no noise, no climbing, no jumping, very easy to care for and breed!

Do they ever get out of the tank?

They cannot climb glass or plastic. I've never had one get out but from what I understand they won't survive long in colder climates, let alone reproduce.

I don't think I'd like them creeping around on the floor, yikes! But in a tank would be fine. How long does it usually take to get a colony going?

That all depends on how many you start off with. you can do it with 50 but i would feed out of that for a few months at least. I would suggest starting with at least 100. with that many you could probably get a decent colony going in about 3 months with light to moderate feeding from the colony.

That sounds pretty good. Crickets are expensive here. $.12 a per large. Feeding 3 retf's and a nearly 4" fast growing cranwelli can get expensive. Not that I mind, but it would also save me from driving to the pet store every other week.

Will my retf's, or can they safely, eat them also?

How big are the baby roaches? How long does it take to get them to a decent feeding size for a 4" pac?

Thanks, btw, for answering all of my questions.

Baby roaches are about 1/8th of an inch to 1/16th of an inch... (someone correct me if im wrong on those sizes... not entirely sure off the top of my head)
These roaches go though 5-6 molts before reaching adulthood, so there's always a variety of sizes in a well established colony.

A 4" pac can take down an adult roach. Feed 2-3 of them and that would make for a decent sized meal. But I wouldn't feed off adults right away when your starting to get a stable colony going, feed the males if you want to feed adult roaches, otherwise feed large sized nymphs.

    http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/foru...1&d=1316171315

This is a good example of a male and a female dubia.

The males are the ones with wings. An ideal male to female ratio to have in a colony is 1:3 (one male for 3 females)
If your serious about starting a colony, I can supply you with a few extra females to get ya going
