Hello everybody, this is my 1st post here.
First be patient with my awful english...
Here is my question:I bought a pyxie about a month ago when it was a 1,5' baby.
Now is a 3.12' kid,and I like to ask you( for sure more experienced than me) if it's possible to tell if it's a male or a female even if it's early.
Sorry for the bad pictures, hope they'll help you.
Here I go:
And thanks in advance to anyone will be helpful.
I'm about 50% certain that's a male.
Although it is early, I would guess a male based on pic #3.
Thanks Jimifrog for your answer.Looking at pic#1 you can also (barely)see a soft yellow spot around the shoulders that appeared during last days;but,as I said before,I'm not a great expert in this kind of frog.
Thank you again.
Thanks once again for your reply and,BTW,I looked at your Picture Albums...what should I say...you got gorgeous creatures, congratulations!
Did you succeed in breeding them?I know it's quite difficult to do...
I just got the one female last week. No babies yet. But I am hopeful.
Hard to tell from pictures but leaning towards male on this one.
Time will tell, but I would have to agree with jimifrog that last picture makes me sway towards male, but its hard to say. How is his attitude? is he extremely agressive, never not hungry ? Hard indications because thats typical for most ABF, if you had multiple to compare would be easier.
Sadly this is my only African Bullfrog so I can't answer at best...but...there's an update!
This afternoon, while I was feeding him,he jumped out of his water box and did a sort of attempt to croak!
A low tone croak,barely udible...does it mean something ?

hey pal, your frog is a female. the head is too narrow and small compare to the body. if you search for a pic of a mile and compare it side by side you will know what i mean.
edit: best view to compare is from the top.
Even though it's body is inflated in a defensive stance picture #3 shows the head pretty well.
I'll be posting some new pics in the next future trying to make it even clearer.
Thanks again anyway
@Jimifrog:wich are the #s of your bigger (really impressive !) male?
I mean:svl lenght,weigh... and age?
Thanks in advance!
Superb!
Tx for your answer.
Another update:last night I heard two or three croaks...is that meaning he's a male?
One last question (just not to open another 3d):does both male and female own odonthoids?
Thanks a lot once again!
If it's croaking, it's a boy.
still think its a female. any new pics?
