I have a wild toad who has taken up residence in my barn. I have enjoyed its company all summer, but now that it is getting cold, I'm concerned that it should go outside & hibernate. It spends most of the daylight hours behind a large metal water trough on a concrete floor. I have taken it outside several times only to find it back behind the trough the following day. Should I leave it alone or move it far enough away that it can't return? I'd hate for it to freeze because it can't burrow underground.
Thanks.
Toads are tough, whether you move it, or leave it where it is, as long as it's good and fat, it'll survive the winter, but they do make a good pet if you want some info on how to keep toads!

Maybe bury it in some hay, or throw some hay ontop of it if it still refuses to dig into the ground somewhere. It'll at least keep the mice and other things from trying to chew on it.
