Hi -
We've only had this little guy a few days and wanted to know if these white patches along the side of his mouth are normal.
Thanks,
Kevin
Yes it looks normal to me.
Those are normal markings. These frogs can change their color from green to brown and blue. Its like having 3 to 4 frogs in one.lol
Thanks to you both!
Yes, we've seen him (by the way, can they be 'sexed' easily?) change color in an instant. Very cool.
Kevin
A good way to tell is to wait until you hear croaking (male). I don't really worry about what sex my frogs are until they reach adulthood and then the boys make themselves known. The boys will start to have a flabby chin.
At what age do they reach adulthood?
Thanks
Kevin
It takes roughly a year although some boys do tend to call a little earlier. Males will also eventually develop "nuptial pads" where their thumbs meet the palms. The girls will also get bigger than the boys but if you have a large male or a small female thats not really going to help you much. Give him time....if its a boy he will eventually start to croak for you. It also helps when you have multiple juvies..then you will start to see the physical differences in them as they get older together and you'll have something to compare them to.
