I'm getting one of the double deep dome lighting fixtures, and I'm wondering what bulbs I should be using. I'm thinking one red incandescent (50 watt...lowest I have found) and a reptisun 2.0/5.0? Not sure what bulbs to get, any help is hugely appreciated, thanks!

The red one is usually used for viewing the frogs at night since they tend to ignore red more than other colors. As for the main bulb, I would just get a daylight spectrum bulb from walmart or somewhere. I use the GE spiral 6500K incandescent bulbs from there. No need for fancy reptile bulbs.

Alright, these look good? Walmart.com: GE Energy Smart Spiral CFL Daylight Bulb, 20W, 2pk: Decor
Thanks!
You make a good point John. When the red light is on at night, they look up and jump for the sky..lol The only thing is that the sky is screened. They scratch their nose a little, but its OK. They are so healthy that the scratches go away. They don't realize that a red bulb is there.lol

It's 2 feet tall, so I think I may go with the 26W...Just don't wanna cook the frogs lol
Would a 26w CFL provide enough heat? My house can get down to 64 F during the winter months. I was thinking a 26w and then a 50 watt red incandescent to keep the night time temp up. Yes/no/maybe?
That's a good idea. You can check the temp daily or twice a day to be safe. FYI, the 8" overhead lamp is just a tad too short. I just got my GE 26w and it hangs out a bit, so I have to get a larger lamp. Here's a pic...

Oh, I use a 25w infared over my retf's 29 gal tank at night and a 5.0 reptiglo tube light/hood light during the day and it keeps it at about 74-76, but I have the furnace here set at 72. I'm not sure if this helps or not?

I would not rely on a daylight fluorescent bulb to heat the terrarium. Heather's idea of a 25w infrared bulb is a good heating solution - I would use it alongside the daylight bulb, just put the daylight bulb on a timer so it goes off at night but the infrared stays on.

Got it, thanks guys!!
Yw . It is a bit drying though and you'll have to mist a lot more.

Yep, that's the GE bulb. I'd stick with a 25w, no more than 50w though for the heat bulb. They get hot and very drying. I only run my red bulb for about 4-6 hours a day. I prefer red to moon or black lights for the tree frogs. It doesn't seem to bother their sleep/wake cycles as much. They seem to ignore the red light. Of course, I have retf's, but I think it'd be the same .

i want yo frog dalton!!!!
It's actually not mine, It's a google image >.< but, I will be getting pictures of my soon to be whites soon.
Thanks Heather, I will probably get the 25w, but what fixture would you suggest using? I'm thinking the double deep dome from flukers...I think it'll be tall enough
That sounds good. The small 8" is plenty big for the red bulb. The GE bulb is too long. I'd take the bulb with you. I just bought my GE bulb (for my plants in the viv) and when I put it in it hung out. I still need to get a larger fixture lamp too. Not exactly sure which one yet. I guess I could've gotten one today but I got distracted by the cute pacman frog there, lol .
