My toads are still just barely 1 inch long, but they are getting pretty fat. I usually give each toad 2 smallish crickets on the nights that they come out (4-5 nights a week lately.) A couple nights a week, they just seem to stay buried.
Less food, or should I just keep at it for now?
Haha, there so cute! I think there fine, personally, I think you'd have to feed them an excessive ammount of food for them to be considered fat.
To much food can cause impaction, especially since chittin takes longer to break down and pass then the softer parts of the crickets. That little guy looks plenty fat, you don't want to have them looking bloated.
I think the little guy looks just fine! If you are just feeding insects and your toad is young, it's hard to overfeed... That tummy is going to get a lot wider (relative to length) as he/she gets older, especially if you have a girl. My mature girls (Woodhouse's toads, a closely related species) are about as wide as they are long...
