Default I'm new and made "my home zoo" album

    Hi all,

I am new to the forum and wanted to introduce myself here although I already entered a photo for the monthly contest and said hello there too. I just uploaded an album of some of my critters called "my home zoo". I hope I did it right since I wasn't too sure about the difference between uploading just pictures or albums.

I like to photograph my animals and seem to keep adding to my collection although each time I promise myself I won't since I have plenty to take care of now. Frogs are one of my favorite animals especially to photograph.

I know what you mean... I have 4 tanks of frogs... it now takes about 20 min in the morning before going to work... my wife is scared we are going to get more... but I am at my time limit for feeding, watering, and tending to the enviornments... I do enjoy the tree frogs the most... My Bullfrog is the most impressive... and his tank is 4' x 4' with a 40 gallon pool. Just startting to get into the photograph thing with them...

welcome to the forum! Your pictures are fun and inspiring. I've thought about doing "fun" pictures of my frogs but never got around to it. Are you a photographer by trade or just a hobby?

Very nice pictures. Is it safe to assume you have Photoshop?

I would say photoshop... my frogs never look that clean. Cathy, do you bathe them before taking their pictures?

Well, I wasn't really refering to the cleanliness of the animals rather the chameleon smokig a cigar, the mouse blowing up a balloon, two behaviors I have never witnessed in the animal kingdom.

Really I see it all the time except it isn't a cigar.

Oh, well that's quite common... when humans aren't around.

Thank you for all your comments. I got into photography about 5 years ago as a hobby and now I sell some of my work in stock agencies online. I do use Photoshop and sometimes I like to be "creative" with my subjects.

My frogs are clean because I don't use the usual dirt like substrates. I use paper towels and or artificial plants and clean their enclosures often.

I find that very saddening, I'm afraid. You can keep a frog as it would prefer to live and still be able to take photographs like yours - it is possible to wash them off you know. (a) I don't think it's very humane to keep most species the way you are describing and (b) I doubt you're getting decent life expectancies out of them.

They seem quite heathly and have hiding places, cork bark to climb on, artificial and live plants to use, and are not exposed to possible mites from dirt substrate. I am surprised you feel that is an inhumane environment for tree frogs.

For treefrogs its not a problem as long as its kept clean. The problem with paper towels is they soil very quickly and they do nothing to retard the growth of bacteria.
For terrestrial types, paper towels are not recommended for those very reasons. Arboreal types can climb to get away from a soiled towel, but something like a pac-man or a toad can't.
I do use paper towels, but only with arboreal types and new amphibians.
