I hope you'll be able to share how the procedure was done.

I guess we'll never know how the vet got all the rocks out. How is that even possible?

This IS a very old post, but a good one to drag up once in a while....this is why we don't use gravel, loose moss, coco husk, etc. as substrate. This one even goes beyond impaction. The X-ray says it all.

Wow closest I have to that was when my daughter was in pull ups and she swallowed a nickle. she pooped that out on halloween after 2 weeks. Doctor said she'd have to have it removed at 3 weeks.

Ooh! Ouch! How lucky that she passed it. I work on a med/surg post-op unit and we have seen all kinds of crazy "foreign body" events. We always pray that they will pass nicely...of not its scope or surgery, usually surgery.

    Hi John,

Thanks for asking about the procedure. Minion has a very strong jaw so she ended up needing to anesthetize him to get his jaw to relax- just a little in his water. Then she opened his mouth and used forceps to grab the rocks and remove them. Then we put him in clean water and he woke up quickly.

Sorry! I'm back. I just responded. Oh- someone asked how long it took for him to eat the rocks. Only a day or two.

    WOW! That is CRAZY!

I've bought and have been given my pacman frogs and both, believe it or not, are housed in pebbles!!!

I've read they shouldn't be and so I'm in the process of changing it and I'm sure hoping they don't have that in their guts!

Now that it's been a couple years, still have Minion? (my boy would love that name BTW!)

Hi! Yes- I still have Minion. And he's still in a tank WITHOUT gravel. He doesn't have very discriminating taste when it comes to things that fit in his mouth! I am glad that you're switching your beasties out of the pebbles. Poor Minion was suffering quite a bit when he ate the rocks and I'd hate for another frog to go through it! I was lucky that he survived. Would love to see some pictures of your frogs!

This is a great thread to renew. It's a great lesson learned. The photos are priceless. I've used your story to teach others several times.

Glad to hear Minion is doing well .

Glad to hear it! That's awesome! Minion is how old now? What else does he like to eat?

Budgies in the wild will feed on freshwater snails in the shape and size of those round pebbles. It may not be surprising to see Minion gobble all those rocks up! Its instinct certainly encouraged Minion to do so.
