hi all...i'm kinda sortas a newbie when it comes to frogs, but my cubans forgive me! i was wondering with these big eaters if it is possible or acceptable to buy crickets, mealworms, waxworms, and silkworms from a local bait store? they are really inexpensive (8.00 for 2000 crix)(2.50 per 100 mealworms) and since i live close i could get them every 2 weeks. does this sound feasable?
When I first got my spring peepers, there were no pet stores around that I could get foods from. Rather than doing wild caught (they did eat a couple of tiny ants) I went to a few local bait stores. I got lucky and actually found one that was raising crickets for fishing and had plenty of pinheads for me.
The only concern with not going to an actual pet store, you are going to need vitamin and calcium supplements to dust with. You could get those online though and they should last a while. If your cubans are adults, you'll only need to dust once or twice a week. I feed my adult tree frogs every other day and dust every other feeding.
