Re: PA Woods and Forests Native Species

    Some good and bad news...

I got Bane's stool sample back and he was positive with the parasites again. It's frustrating to know they are still alive and trying to kill the animals of the PA Woods...

    Re: Frog Forests

Some good news for the animals in the Frog Forests...

I got the results back and Wellsboro was negative for any parasites! This is the first time I have owned him that he is clean. It's been a...
  6. Re: Wild toad bloated, unsure if injured? Need help

They usually just release the water that they have stored up it's not normally urine.

Everything else that trouthunter said is spot-on. I think it looks more like the toad is getting prepared to...

    Re: Bufo Alvarius Diet Question

I guess what I should say is that not necessarily hibernate but the changing of the conditions around you would probably cause a change in the toad so a seasonal change could be happening too.

    Re: Bufo Alvarius Diet Question

Can you describe the temperature and humidity of the enclosure? It could be something very simple or it could be something involving the toad wanting to hibernate and it could be acting up because of...

    Re: Cricket demand

You can purchase feeders online cheaper and it's better to get in bulk. Josh's Frogs, Rainbow Mealworms and Carolina Biological are the best to buy feeders.

You can be using Mazuri Better Bug...

    Re: Draining the Drainage Layer?

I actually use something called bio drain. It is a good barrier and keeps the lad and water areas separate

  12. Re: I feel like my American Toad is too skinny

The toads still have their toxin it just won't secrete unless they feel threatened to the point their life is in danger. I have actually seen captive toads still produce the chemical.

    Re: Draining the Drainage Layer?

If you are going to keep fire bellied toads then you will need a lot of humidity. One way people have gotten around mold and fungus growing is having a bunch of springtails and isopods. The day will...

    Frog Forests

I am working on a project that will display two very different enclosures focused on two different needs for the specific animals. The direction I am moving next is centered about creating a biome....

    Re: alternative to crickets

I would recommend the mealworms for many reasons.

    Easy to breed
    Beetles has less noxious secretion
Smaller mandibles won't necessarily damage or bite the toad

  18. Re: How often should I feed my american toads?

This is from the study you shared.

I want to say it's a great study but it actually proved my point that they aren't in Mexico. A different species is....
  19. Re: How often should I feed my american toads?

The toad native to Pennsylvania and northeast is not in Mexico. A subspecies I can see but they do not say it's different. It is a cold tolerant frog.

  20. Re: How often should I feed my american toads?

Read the range again. American Toads don't occur down to Mexico. Penn State is not talking about the same American Toad. The dwarfs are in Canada and South Carolina. They do not live in Mexico. They...
  21. Re: How often should I feed my american toads?

The care article on American Toads is not done very well. They claim these toads only live 8-10 years but they can live for over 40.

The second thing is they believe toads can live their whole...

  23. Re: How often should I feed my american toads?

You can add in waxworms and mealworms as well as roaches, hornworms, silkworms and others. I think to try a three day schedule would be good. So you can pick what 3 days you want but I'd start there...

    Re: Bufo Alvarius Diet Question

Earthworms seem to contain parasites that have effected American Toads so I would not recommend earthworms for a captive toad. You can try waxworms or mealworms. Sometimes toads like slow moving food...
