Re: DO I need an airstone

They need oxygen. In two gallons of water, yes I would use an airstone.

    Re: Southern toad diet

In the wild they are going to find more protein. A sinking fish food, such as cichlid wafers, has worked well for me in the past.

Re: Help With Female American Toad

Toads do not become lonely or depressed. The lethargic behavior suggests a health or husbandry issue- possibly the same issue that caused the other toads death.
I don’t understand what you mean...
  4. Re: It's been a while... thinking of getting back into it.

It can be hard to stay away from the herp hobby.
What species are you thinking of getting into?

    Re: UVB through glass?

If you want the frog to have UVB, you’ll need to replace the glass with screen. Glass DOES filter out UVB.

Re: Sonoran Desert Toad! (Incilius alvarius)

I've never kept this species, but I agree they're pretty nice.

Re: Fire belly toad not eating

One missed feeding isn’t necessarily a sign of problems, so no, don’t panic.
However, getting them onto a wider variety of feeders would be a great idea.

Re: Isopods ok for small frogs to eat?

I would say it should be fine, but don’t introduce many isopod sat a time. They can quickly reproduce to the point of being a nuisance themselves, and potentially hazardous to the frogs.

Re: green tree frog- question on morals

No- by all means- do NOT release it.
It may have picked up disease or pathogens while in captivity, which could be passed on to the local population.
Additionally, since it was almost certainly...

Re: Possible Hypo Wood Frog Tads??

Amphibian larva often appear light in color, and wood frog coloration is quite variable as well. It’s more likely that is what you are seeing, rather than hypomelanism. But, time will tell.

Re: Help! Toad with injured eye.

I’m not seeing signs of injury. It’s probably just a birth defect.

    Re: Multivitamin recommendation

That does sound like an odd comment. I have not experienced that. I would be curious to learn the basis of that statement.

    Re: Shipping Fire belly toads

Most breeders use Ship Your Reptiles or a similar service. Personally, I use SYR:

The website covers everything from how to package the animals to how to book a...

Re: can i help them grow faster

If you want them to grow faster, feed them more. It is safe to put them in a tank together when they are all the same size, or close to it.
These are big, active frogs and will require a very large...

  18. Re: Good site/breeder to buy gray tree frogs from?

Very few, if any, people are breeding gray treefrogs in the US. I've never seen captive bred specimens for sale.
I have never purchased anything form the dealers that you mentioned, and I doubt that...

    Re: Feeder alternatives during quarantine

So you bought 500 crickets, at twice the price of 250? That's one of my complaints about Josh's- they're quite stingy about giving good customers a break. I like the banded crickets quite a bit, but...

    Re: Feeder alternatives during quarantine

My advice is to order crickets in bulk. It's usually not cost effective to order less than 500 at a time, and for only one frog, many crickets may die before being fed.
    However- I have recently...

    Re: Cricket delivery and tips

I haven't found an economical source of crickets in quantities of less than 500. If you only need a few dozen here and there, a pet store is probably your best bet.

Re: What kind of frog is this?

Both of the gray tree frogs, Cope's and versicolor, have the yellow/orange flash colors on the legs. It isn't a valid method of distinguishing them.
  25. Re: Tips on raising temperature in tank while not lowering humidity?

Is the enclosure covered? If not, a cover or partial cover would help maintain heat and humidity. Or you could simply turn up the thermostat on your under tank heater. If this results in a loss of...
