It's getting cold in England - frog heating advice required! Hello,
We have recently acquired a young adult-male horned frog:
He seems healthy and is eating very well, but it has just started to get cold here in the UK and the temperature in the tank is on the low side (70 degrees)
Our current set up is a plastic tank with a heat mat under the tank and a coco husk/coco bark substrate.
My questions are:
1. Tank - some of the information suggests a glass tank would help retain heat better?
2. Heating - is it better to use some form of light (such as the The Exo Terra Infra Red Heat Bulb which emits infrared heat waves) or to try and incorporate a second heat mat, maybe on the side of the tank?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Re: It's getting cold in England - frog heating advice required! I would use a light for supplemental heat. A heat pad on both sides isn't a good idea. It doesn't allow them to thermoregulate.
Re: It's getting cold in England - frog heating advice required! My personal preference is using a heat mat under one end on the tank. My advice would be to make a tank cover that has few holes in the top, this will not only keep the humidity up, it will keep the heat in. My tanks stay about 85 degrees Fahrenheit no matter what time of year it is.
