Yes they shed when growing and if their skin was too dry and they shed the dry layer when they become moist. Yes sometimes after they eat well they will burrow down for a day or two.

Should I expect a shed skin laying around like I do when my snakes shed or do the frogs usually eat it? Is there any signs a frog is going to shed? My snakes eyecaps become opaque about a week before shedding.

They eat their shed. Frogs puff up with air to stretch the outer layer before pulling in off and up yo their mouth with their feet and hands.

Sometimes I see a pecie of slime floating in the water and can make out the shape of a hand in it. Its not something you can keep, it just looks like a pile of clear slime. They usually eat most or all of it like Grif said.
