Frogs eyes

    Default Frogs eyes

    My pacman Hank is lookin healthy and vocal, he woke my girlfriend up croaking without even having rain simulated. So i was wondering why his pupils are rather large... he looks like he is on shrooms or somethin haha. is this a proble or is he focusing on something?

    Is it dark or in low light? Their pupils work like ours, but their eyes aren't exactly like ours in terms of how they see. There eyes work like a spotlight. light goes in and is reflected off the retina back out allowing them to see in low light and darkness. If he is in low light or you are using an infrared light he can fully open his pupils without harming his eyes. You see the muscle that opens and closes their pupil acts like an eyelid. THIS Allows them to sleep with their eyes open. Even though they can actually close their eyes and do have a second transparent eyelid which the name of it escapes me now.

    It's called Nictitating Membrane. I remember this during my biology class in college...LOL.
