Hi, ive added a couple of posts about ACF, could you check them out for me thanks, also could you answer this question? my female ACF does not do a desist call when a male amplexs with her and shes not ready to breed, my other females used to call like mad and smash the tank up trying to offload an unwelcome male, instead she is very passive and seems to go into a trance, the first few times i saw this i removed the male off her thinking she was dead only to have her "wake up" and bolt. Is this unusual?
  2. Your realy cool, Just saying. You realy know about you amphibians!

  4. The frogs are well . I was wondering though. Do they get their pads AT sexual maturity or BEFORE it? They're getting bigger now but i dont know how to determine how old they are or anything.
  5. they are about 1 inch, the albino isn't showing any signs of a nuptial pad. My 'wild' type's hands look black... Are the hands supposed to be lighter colored like the rest if the underbelly?
  6. I figured it out, they both just fat lol. They both are active and eating, so i'l presume they are healthy. I detoxed the tank before they went on with baking soda and water, just in case jeremiah had a disease. It's proving to be quite difficult to sex them though because one of the is almost black and the other is albino, Do albino's develop black nuptial pads too?
  7. Hey you posted on my thread about my frog changing colors and what not. Unfortunately he passed away yesterday. I cleaned out the tank and got new frogs today i was wondering about on, there about 1.5 inches (fro the store, so they're little) One of them has a bigger belly. Is it just fatter than the other or is it possible that its just a female? Just hoping its not the bloating disease ya know..

    Hello Terry,
Kurt advised me that you would probably be the best one to seek out - you responded to my thread about my acf laying eggs....could you take a look at the thread again? I could really use some input!

Hi

My name is Terry and live in Bellevue, Nebraska (a suburb of Omaha). I have been keeping African clawed frogs and Surinam toads for many years and really enjoy them. This blog is for those of you who enjoy keeping these aquatic frogs. Everyone is welcome to contribute!

I recently came across a wonderful guide on keeping African clawed frogs (Xenopus). It is available online (PDF format) and free of charge. It is called Guidance on the Housing and Care of the African
