  1. The water portion of my tank only has about 3-4 gallons. Since it is a pretty low amount, I just do complete water changes as needed, using a shop-vac. However, if you wanted to decrease the amount of water you take out, you could use a siphon (would be sold as a gravel vacuum at a pet store). I have also used one of those small nets they use at fish stores to catch fish when you buy them. The holes are small enough to catch most substrate, plus shed skin and other particulate matter.

    Hey man i looked at your set up for your pixie i have a 50/50 set up, how do you clean out the substrate from the water?
