Great advice, friendly people, and lots of frogs!
One inch may be a bit small to determine sex. As the frog grows, male fingers will blacken and, if female, a swollen cloaca will develop. Males generally reach maturity at about 12 months while females a couple months sooner.
The nuptial pads are very visible on the albinos. They will be easy to spot on the "wild type" (dark coloration) too.
Sorry to hear about your frog. Bloating disease seems to be very common these days. Choosing a frog is not too difficult - look for one that has firm skin, not too tight or loose, body shape for males is long and narrow, while females are plump and pear shape. Males of that size should have blackened finger tips called nuptial pads. Females will have a swollen vent (cloaca). Make sure there isn't any unusual discoloration of the skin, maybe sign of disease or injury. If you do get another frog, pick up some Lymnozyme, this is a pro-biotic that helps prevent bacterial infections that cause bloating and kidney failure.
