Since it's been pretty cold here, we took out our garden because the frost had gotten to some of the plants and they were dying. so, when we took the tomatoes out there was a mantis in the straw. I took it in and have been feeding. this morning I looked in the container and she had laid an egg sac!! And I always slice off a tiny bit of the sac on the side to make sure that it is fertile and not a dud. and when I did I saw eggs on the inside! this is my first fertile egg sac!!

still alive. I guess it must be eating since crickets keep disappearing and it hasnt died yet. I sprayed water in there today and she drank a bunch of drops off the screen lid.

ah, hopefully she'll lay them here soon! When she does post some pictures!!! What does your friend plan to do with male? just curious, lol!

Has she laid a sac yet or is she still gorging? also you might want to keep the sac outside. or you'll have a bunch of grown mantis' before summer has come around and they will all end up dying. depending on where you live(and the temps.) they should hatch when it's starts to get warm...if it's fertile.

that's strange...my mantis did fine in a ten gallon. Anyways, well...that's a hard one. most people would say to just let it go and do it's thing. But if you keep it and it lays an egg sack, and then you try to raise them(if you want). they have better chances of living if you raise them yourself than in the wild. but there are tons of babies so it would be hard. But if you raised them till they got about medium sized them let them go in your garden they would have a much better chance of living. or you could just keep the egg sack over the winter(keep the sack out side in a container or they will hatch to soon!) and then when they hatch you can just let them go in your garden. "cause some predators could try to eat the sack. lol...sorry for being so spastic in writing this. Any more questions?
