where did you get the tads and did you know they were greys when you got them?
  2. I haven't been on in awhile either! They are doing good and getting big, at least big for gray tree frogs. I changed out thei substrate a few days ago, and now they are on a hunger strike and won't eat the ff. Not sure if they are bored with ff, the cooler weather is not making them as hungry or is they don't like the new substrate.....if only they could talk!

I haven't been on in a while, how are your little froglets doing?

Thanks Megan! I'm glad you enjoyed them.
  5. we got back today from my parents...all 6 tadpoles/froglets made it! 2 of the tadpoles turned into froglets while we were gone. I ordered fruit flies from Josh's...this ought to be an interesting experiment in feeding. I think I read a post from you that said that the new froglets didn't eat for a few days even after their tails were gone. Hopefully, the flies get here quickly!

Awesome! I, too, was caught by surprise with how quickly they changed. Another weird thing: at least 2 of the ones I kept, and several others, never actually turned the bright green I'd expected that indicated impending metamorphosis. I still haven't tried crickets; I'm paranoid about them being too big, escape, keeping them healthy, hiding in the viv and nipping the frogs, etc. I already have free roaming escaped flies!

I'm still feeding flies but just started switching to the larger hydei species (they're trickier to culture; see John's article for that). I highly recommend ordering flies from joshsfrogs.com. It was very hot when mine shipped too, but they have a live guarantee. Just make sure you're home when the order is supposed to come. They packed my cultures with ice packs to make sure they didn't overheat and die/become sterile. They carry crickets of all sizes too. I'm actually just about to order some 1/4" crix for my stepmother's anoles, but the smallest amount you can order is 500, so I'll be trying them out with the froggies too

How are your tadpoles doing? Let me know if you still need help. I'm new to frogs, but managed to raise 30 tadpoles this summer with only 2 casualties
