    Default HELP!!!! Frog Seriously Burned

Hi, my sister has a pacman frog and she left him in the sink with the hot water dripping on him. The water gets incredibly hot here and it ended up burning the frog severely on the right side of his body. What are his chances of living and how can we take care of him?

It was under running sink water? The burn looks pretty bad, but if it was being run under chlorinated tap water I think that would hurt its chances of survival severely. The chlorine in straight tap water is highly toxic to amphibians. Do you have an exotic vet in your area?

Yeah, where is your area? Could you please post your location and contry in your profile. It will help us to help you better.

I would keep him on clean, moist paper towels for now. Keep his inclosure spotless to prevent infection. A vet needs to be consulted on this issue.

Strange, I would have thought water hot enough to burn a frog like that would have killed it in short order. I also am confused how it managed to be burned only on one side. I would think if it was in a container in the sink with water hot enough to burn the hot water would have burned it's whole belly as well and not just one side if by some strange occurrence it wasn't killed outright by the heat. Are you quite sure it was actually burned by the hot water? I have seen similar looking frogs before that were suffering from bacterial infections. Sometimes warm water will make a bacterial infection a lot more obvious. Causes a bacterial bloom I suppose. To be honest though I don't think the frog will live. If it actually is a severe burn I really think it will die from it and if it is actually not a burn but a bacterial infection anti-biotics might save it but the chances are still good it will die.

Seth, I would have thought the too but Ive seen other cases of frog burns on this forum and they have survived. So I think it has a chance if it's taken to the Vet asap.

    frogggzzz...I wish your frog luck.

I have seen frogs get burns from lights and heat pads and survive but it seems to me scalding water would be a more penetrating and less localized type of burn. I hope your right though. One way or the other I would think they will know in no more than a week or so.

I cant understand how or why this happened to this frog exactly, but it should be examined by a vet. I cant comment further because it would be an emotional answer as I feel extremely sorry for this frog if it was actually burned by hot tap water in a sink....

Yikes. Replace his substrate with moist paper towels. Give him a clean water dish with dechlorinated water. And provide something smooth and sterile for him to hide under. (Like a plastic rock cave/hide.) You need to keep him super clean by changing the water/towels daily. I would recommend putting some triple antibiotics like neomycin or neosporin or ozinol on him with a q-tip. Please take him to a vet as well. Check out this link for more information.

Any update on whether the frog lived or died? Inquiring minds would like to know...
