Hey there, Im not sure about your species of frog but the 15 min rule always works well. Feed him as much as he will eat in 15min every 2-3 days. If you are concerned post a photo of Ernie so we can see.
This is a discussion on Are my FBT's too skinny, or are they just a healthier weight? within the Fire Belly Toads (Bombina) forums, part of the Frogs & Toads category; About 2 years ago I purchased Ernie, a FBT from Petsmart. My first amphibian ever. He is still with me ...
About 2 years ago I purchased Ernie, a FBT from Petsmart. My first amphibian ever. He is still with me today, but Im kind of curious. I went back and watched some youtube videos I posted of him, and noticed how much more wide his abdomen was when I first got him. Now I see that he has a lot skinnier abdomen. He is still an active, eating, hunting, happy, toad but I dont know if I've put him on a diet and lost some fat or if I am depriving him of some food. I feed him 3-4 crickets per week. I guess I haven't been starving him, for he has been alive w/ me for 2 years, but...I dont know. I also got another FBT recently, and he's skinnied down too. Should I feed him more...or is he fine the way he is...a good healthy weight. Thanks.

I agree with Ebony, a photo would help, and you should always stick to the 15 minute rule if you are unsure. It is not "healthy" for an amphibain to be on the "lighter" end of the weight scale, they should always be a little heavier. This is not the case with all amphibains, but it is for most common ones affored in the pet trade, like FBT's.

ive had a some what similiar event so i hope my advice helps. First i would feed them more often maybe twice a week insted of once. also pay attention to the frogs when you feed them. is the newly added frog eating more? that could be a problem. when i first got urlacher, he lived up to his name. he was skinny from the petshop however shortly fattened up like a true linebacker. However when i introduce his friend i started to see his weight drop. hes not as aggresive with food anymore the other one eats all the food.
three Firebelly toads (urlacher, Hester, and forte) also have two African dwarf frogs (thing1 and thing2), and a albino pacwoman (Dotty)
