Just added two adult males to my collection. The first is Sumo, from Ed Clark. From a seller in Tampa. And the second, Killer (his new name, he did not have one), may also be from Ed Clark at the same time. I am excited about these additions for breeding in the spring. They have been well cared for. Both with lots of outside time. Each is about 7 inches SVL. I will take more pictures in the future, once they are in their new home. They are in 5 gal. buckets waiting to be placed in their new tanks.

Hi.

I just bought an African bull frog about two weeks ago. Bull frogs are very rare where I live and I've been looking for one for ages so I'm stoked to finally have one.. but after taking a closer look at him, my bull frog really doesn't look like the African Bull frogs you see on google. Mine is much darker in color and the head seems different too. He has a large cage with the required heating ect, eats a lot and is fairly active during the night, so I'm pretty sure he's not sick. I was told he's about 6 months old. Here's a pic of him, sorry about the crappy quality.. I have a video of him also if you guys need to see it.. Can anyone please tell me if my boy really is a normal African Bull Frog? I like him just the same anyway, but it'd be nice to know! frogsmile

My edulis of a few weeks has buried himself in the substrate. He seemed to slow eating then was in the water for a day. The next day he was buried eyes shut. When bumped or sprayed he just squirms further into the fiber. His eyes seem unable to open.
Is this the beginning of aestivation?

It is about 85ish with 75-80% humidity in his cage during the day. Room temp at night.

Should i just go with the flow? stop spraying and let him do his aestivation thing?

These frogs have very curious habits.

Today I bought my first pyxie. I was thinking about getting two Bufo melanostictus, but then I feel in love with this frog so I bought one of each.

The problem is that I had prepared a tank for 2 Bufos, so I had to put my pyxie on a temporary box.

I bought him as Pyxicephalus adspersus, and I think it's a female, but I'm not sure because it's the first one I ever had.

She/he eats very well, mainly zoophobas

Her/His tank:

Im really curious on what to do with the male i got. When i first got him he was sleeping. I decided to just let him sit in tupperware full of warm water and he woke up. When i put him back on CoCo Fiber he burrowed a bit and closed his eyes and wrapped a layer around himself again.

My room is pretty hot and dry right now because its the end of August. I spray him twice but it dries up quick. Should i just wait till it cools down a bit to wake him up?

Also he croaks at night and it sounds like a cow!!! And my Female has been croaking and laying her hind legs out. Could this be a sign? Thanks for any insight and help guys.

If you read one of previous posts, you will know that I took Fat Albert to the vet last Thurs. to get examined. I was given oral medication for him to take for 3 days, and then 3 more days 2 weeks later. I finished the first 3 treatments on Saturday. He seems to be a bit more active, though he still stays in his water dish 24-7, he still is refusing to eat. He just doesn't seem to be interested in eating for some strange reason. Besides not eating, he is acting normal. He just isn't hungry I guess.

This would be the result of my over-excited Bullfrog during a feeding. I was in the process of feeding him roaches from a hemostat. This is actually the second time he got me. The first was just a grazing wound. This time he got my whole thumb in his mouth and latched down. He was about 2 feet out of the water when he decided to let go. I have three distinct tooth (or odontoid) marks on one side of my thumb (the bleeding side.) He is much calmer during feeding on the dry side of his tank. Won't be feeding him in the water again.

Hello as a new owner of a pixie I am trying to take care of him as best i can.

How often should you feed a non full grown frog? I was feeding him 3 times a week but i found out my roommate fed him some in the middle, the guy doesn't stop eating??

Kinda gross question but what should his stool look like if its healthy? I saw that runny stool can mean he has worms. He goes in the water so I am not sure if it was solid or not. It just looks like dirt with some chunks at the bottom of his water, kinda like the coconut fiber with some bigger pieces.

Thanks guys frogsmile

Order babies/adults from Africa, possible

Well, me and my tenacious hunt for pixie frogs ... have found an exporter from South Africa that will ship baby and adult P. adspersus to the states....

Well, me and my tenacious hunt for pixie frogs ... have found an exporter from South Africa that will ship baby and adult P. adspersus to the states. Now for the details.

The exporter is from South Africa and would ship them by plane. The pixie babies are $20 each and adults are $40 each. Shipping would cost about $400. That shipping cost would be for almost any quantity we would want. There still may be some bargaining room in the individual cost, I will see, if we are interested.

So, just for the figures. If we were to order 20 babies, that would work out to be about $40 each without shipping in the states to members. I would have to check on the best safest way to ship in the states. 10 adults about $80 each. 20 babies+10adults about $30 babies and $60 adults.

BUT one of the biggest advantages of this purchase is that this would be 'original' stock from Africa.

I am waiting on final word from US Import/Export Div. They are checking on P. adspersus status. And we would have to see if there is enough interest to put all the funding together to take on this huge order.

I am still quizzing the exporter about exact shipping methods including packing, and am waiting on 'actual' pictures of some of the frogs they would be sending us. So, we can visually verify that they are adspersus.

Thanks for looking. We can see if this is even possible. It is a good deal, BUT a lot of money.

Cheers,

I was wondering what is the best material to use as a divider, and what is the best thing to seal the divider to the tank.
I am a pyxie keeper, hopeful future breeder (fingers crossed for luck), and browser of this forum from time to time. I would love to get opinions on the sex of one of my pyxies. I was hoping that this was a female but I am not certain based on the recent growth and coloration. Please give me your opinions if you can find the time. Thanks!

Here are some pictures of my Pixie named Penny. I got him/her in January from a local reptile store (that has since disappeared.) The store owner told me it was about a year old. I had wanted a male, but given the size, age, and faint stripe down the back, I assumed this was a female. I was satisfied because the coloring, especially the orange on the belly and armpits is really nice. I named her Penelope, until one afternoon I heard croaking from my reptile room. I have no other frogs, and nothing else that calls. Now I assume it is a small male. However, with all of these threads with people thinking they are getting giants when they are really getting dwarfs, I am getting concerned that maybe I also have a dwarf, as I feel my frog contains aspects of both species. So what I am saying is, help! I am expecting good things from the collective expertise here. Thanks, all!
