Default Newest adoption - Tovi, the armless wonder

I just adopted "Toviah" aka Tovi from a member on this forum Rikvah. She arrived today and is truly an interesting little ACF.
She morped with out her front arms and has a "neck".

She is currently acclimating in a 3 gallon with a shallow depth and will move into her quarantine tank this evening.
    Pictures wil be posted momentarily

I am interested to see myself. I may give her a bloodworm treat tonight to make the ordeal less upsetting and see how she does with pellets in a day or two.

After quarantine I will try her with a couple frogs to see how she olds up....worse case she will be a tank mate for my male Piebald named Igor who I adopted even though he has a twisted spine. He has to be hand fed due to his deformity so I could house her with him so she could eat at her leisure.

Yea she propells herself around just fine. The front arms aren't used that much for swimming, mostly for shovelling food into their mouths. But she wouldn't have made it to be a plump adult unless she was able to feed so I assume she does just fine.

We'll see lol - - I wouldn't raise any of their eggs - - one parent with a twisted spine and the other with no arms? I would assume the risk of deformity/abnormality would be higher for their offspring.

Hi, I have to chime in.... I am the previous owner of Tovi... I found her in my lfs when she was about an inch, maybe a little less. Initially she lived with ADFs in a 50g with assorted fish and obvisiouly did very well before being moved to difference tanks with bigger fish. She eats well especially frozen blood worms, swims well.... if you did not know that she was missing something you would not notice.

But, under Jenna watchful eye, time will tell how she does with "normal" ACFs.

Hey, I want to say that I am sitting here giggling to myself like an idiot over this...I am enjoying all the posts.

Jenna, thank you again so very much for taking her in, and giving to her a great home. It takes a special ACF person that is willing to add such creature to their collection. Now that its been a couple of days, how is she eating for you? How is she adjusting to here new home?

Wow that's really odd, her neck being long like that, she reminds me more of a salamander. Her deformity sure doesn't look like it's hindered her so far!

She is definitely an interesting little creature! She doesn't go for the Reptomin sticks yet so she has been getting bloodworms for now. Once she is a bit more settled I will start fasting for a couple days then adding Reptomin sticks in again to see how she does with them.

I'd love to be able to try her in my community ACF tank in a few weeks, but only if she has mastered Reptomin eating...

Hey, I tried to forewarn you... she is rather spoiled and although she had lived with many co-habitants, none were any competition, so she never felt an urgency to eat, instead eating at her leisure. At this moment, I am not sure which of you is going to win this battle of wills. Right now its too close to call.

I hope that you have and can maintain a sense of humor... you are going to need it. What I probably also should have told you... she has a stubborn streak, if that can be said about a ACF.

Oh, yes she does like red wigglers....

    Oh, you did warn me!

I don't mind.... She has already won me over and then some. I've had many stubborn frogs and axolotls so I think in time we will come to an arrangement that we are happy with!

Oh, one other suggestion: although I did not try to feed her reptomin specifically, I was able to get her to eat a different type of turtle pellet occassionally, little round ones, but only after it was water logged enough to sink. And occasssionally, she would eat krill, but again only from the bottom of the tank. Without having arms, she can't shovel food stuffs into her mouth, I don't know if that makes or if that could make eating from the surface harder. She was not one to float that the surface as I have seen "normal" ACF do. She might be another one you will have to hand feed... sorry (but not really).

You are such a saint to take her in, without knowing everything. I am sorry (well...not really), as I read your posts, I am remembering more of her quirks that I forgot to mention. Since I simply lived with them, I took them for granted. And since she was my first and only ACF, I thought is was all normal, I now know that its not.
